Houses and Gardens of Kyoto: Explore the Rich and Diverse Heritage of Japan's Ancient Capital

Japanese gardens and temples have already inspired mathematical problems, originally written on wooden blocks. A good reference for this subject is Fukagawa and Rothman (2008); unfortunately, the Ryōan-ji is not present in this book. On the other hand, the presence and breaking of symmetry of the Ryōan-ji garden has been analyzed in Van Tonder et al. (2002) and Van Tonder and Lyons (2005). In particular, the authors show local axes of symmetry among the rocks by using medial axis transformations. This is an a-posteriori approach focused on the visual perception, whereas we imagine the garden in the moment of its construction.

Antonio Perazzi s passion lies in investigating the connection between plants and people, both in large projects for public places and in private bespoke gardens. He is persuaded that to achieve a better human world, he must acknowledge and relate to all other organisms living or not that inhabit planet Earth with us; therefore, the Studio designs low-maintenance gardens and sites rich in nature, and low- maintenance biodiversity where one can feel comfortable. For Elle Decor he designed for Fuorisalone 2022 Elle Decor a courtyard at Palazzo Bovara with lush and tropical plantings, with furnitures from Belgian brands Tribu and Atelier Vierkant.

Just 10 kilometers outside the French city Annecy, up on the mountainside facing the picturesque Annecy lake and the rising Alps, the Charvin family has been maintaining the forest and planting trees for generations. Still nursing trees, designing gardens and outdoor spaces is now the core of their activity with landscape architect Arnaud Charvin and his wife Julie continuing the family heritage.

Dynamically generated. Your map is downloaded exactly as it appears in the browser. No elements are omitted. If you save multiple maps at the same zoom level, they may have different font and icon sizes.

For map series with unified font size per zoom level. Your map is created using content and font sizes that we pre-define uniformly for each zoom level, so that fonts and icons from multiple downloads generated at the same zoom level match. If there is not enough space for individual elements in the process, they could be omitted.

These options only affect newly created maps, already created maps will not be affected by changing this setting! Are you unsure which setting is the right one for you? In our manual we go into this topic again in more detail and also generally explain a bit more comprehensively why screen views can differ from the downloaded file (or its preview).

Home and urban gardening represents another viable yet underestimated component of sustainable agrifood systems50. A rich body of research on traditional home gardens, especially demonstrating their relevance to agrobiodiversity, household nutrition, gendered labour and poverty alleviation, is not yet widely recognized or activated in policy. Gardens exemplify the multifunctional character of agriculture: in addition to their direct contributions to food security, they often produce medicinal plants, fodder for domestic animals and other non-food-related household goods, and their role in in situ biodiversity conservation and the provision of supporting and regulating ecosystem services (including carbon sequestration) is also well established51.
